Dissolution

The central figure in Dissolution is the witch from the folk beliefs surrounding Luca Day, who appears in the story of Luca’s Chair. According to the legend, she follows the trail of poppy seeds scattered by a fleeing person and eventually reaches their home. There, she finds Luca’s Chair, which has been thrown into the fire, and steps onto it. The only way to destroy the witch is to burn the chair itself.
The sculpture depicts this final moment. The poppy seeds falling from the witch’s body evoke a state of dissolution and disintegration. As the figure gradually loses its strength, its role within the story also becomes uncertain: the threatening witch gives way to a vulnerable and helpless figure.
