Gratitude

The Gratitude series consists of 52 individual ceramic portraits of roosters and hens. The work approaches the idea of gratitude through a personal childhood memory.
When I was a child, my family would gather for lunch at my grandparents’ farm every Sunday. My grandmother would often prepare the meal from a chicken or rooster raised there. The animal’s death thus became part of a shared meal and family gathering, while the recurring Sunday ritual also marked the passage of time.
The 52 portraits refer to the 52 weeks of the year. The rooster and hen are connected to cycles of life, time, and nourishment, while each individual figure remains unique and unrepeatable.
