Saatgut der Kultur
material
wood, canvas, basalt, reed
year
2024
location
Collegium Hungaricum Berlin
size
200x250x550 cm
The installation was created for a competition marking the 100th anniversary of the Collegium Hungaricum Berlin.
The canvas features the final passage of a 1925 letter by Róbert Gragger addressed to the residents of the Collegium. One hundred cobblestones are placed on the canvas, representing the institution’s hundred-year history. The basalt stones appear in two different sizes, corresponding to its active periods and periods of interruption. The flowering reed refers to the destructive effects of these interruptions on the support and representation of Hungarian culture in Berlin.
“Looking back on a century in which the institution will take root, I look ahead to centuries to come.”
/ Róbert Gragger /
