One of Many

Corn is commonly understood as part of a collective rather than as an individual form. One of Many isolates a single plant from this familiar structure, transforming it into a solitary presence. Detached from the field, the sculpture shifts from an agricultural symbol to a portrait of identity.
The work considers how belonging shapes the individual. Social groups influence behaviour, values and self-perception, while separation from those structures creates an uncertain position. The sculpture deliberately avoids defining whether the figure has been rejected or has chosen to step away. Instead, it occupies the fragile space between individuality and collective identity.
Constructed from carved wood and hand-cut steel, the work combines the permanence of sculpture with the subtle instability of its subject. Standing alone, the figure carries the traces of the community it once belonged to while asserting its own presence.
